What To Wear This Winter

What to wear this winter

It's that time of year when the nights have drawn in and temperatures rarely reach higher than 7°C. Whether you’re a lover or hater of a crisp morning chill, you’ve got to dress for the occasion. From feathers to faux fur and capes to cosy knits, we see new trends storm the rails and the return of some old favourites.

So, what trends can we look forward to this winter?

Faux, of course. Rumoured to be this season’s stand out fashion trend, we’re all about feathers. The AW19 catwalks saw an explosion of feather trimmed everything, even seen dotted along the Met Gala red carpet on the backs of many a fashion icon  in May. From dresses to coats, shoes to sleeve cuffs, accessorising with fanciful feathers is sure to get you scoring big on the trend charts this winter. Wherever you wear the feathers, unless you are Met Gala’ing, less is more, so keep the look chic by pairing it down and keeping it simple.

The gift that keeps on giving, knitwear will always be a staple in an AW wardrobe, even making appearances throughout the seasons to follow. Besides its warm material properties, a chunky knit jumper is a great asset to any look, whether you choose to pair it with a satin midi skirt and chunky boots or layer it under a leather jacket teamed with trousers. From ribbed, to roll neck, cable kit to oversized, there's nothing quite like new knitwear to make you autumn ready. And as seen in our winter TV ad, wearing a woolly jumper as a scarf is very on-trend.

Ankle boots

Every year, designers and fashion lovers around the world experience a recurring seasonal love affair with winter boots. These reliable and diverse gems blend beautifully with every style. From lace ups to animal print, cowboy to Chelsea, we see boots paired with everything from jeans to a flared jumpsuit or teamed with whimsical dresses to toughen up the look. From tomboy chic to preppy cool, boots offer a distinctively functional finish to any outfit in a way that no other shoe can.

Satin slip skirts

Throughout the summer season we have seen the return of the 90s satin slip skirt and dress trend. This AW19 is no different as we see these pieces continue to dominate the wardrobes of fashionistas. These transitional pieces can be easily paired with ankle boots and knits to a graphic tee and longline coat. Effortless to bring out for any occasion and a sure way to stay on trend.

No, it won’t give you superpowers or make you fly, but this season the cape will be your winter outerwear hero. A super chic addition to your wardrobe that will add sophisticated sass to any outfit. Shop browns and neutral tones and couple with boots, skinny jeans and a bobble hat.

Faux fur coats

Reinvented every year, we always go back for more from the timeless faux fur coat. This year, oversized, soft and fluffy will do. Whether it’s keeping you cosy on a frosty winter’s day or you’re rocking it at the Christmas party, a faux fur jacket will add a touch of luxury to any outfit you wear this year. And there’s really no limit to what style to go for this season. For a day-to-day piece go for a classic nude, brown, black or white: as seen in our winter marketing campaign. Or if you’re struggling to let go of the summer shades, bold prints and colours have been spotted on the likes of Stella McCartney’s catwalk, the world is your oyster with this one. Pairing any of the above with 70s inspired knee-high boots will make for a classic look.
